About Us at St Matthews Catholic Primary School
St. Matthew’s Catholic Primary School is a co-educational Catholic Academy which caters to pupils in the west of Northumberland Local Authority. Our school has worked alongside the children and parish of Our Lady and St Cuthbert’s Catholic Church since 1876. We aim to provide a nurturing and stimulating learning environment in hopes to push all children to achieve their very best throughout their time with us.
On 1st April 2015, our school became an Academy and joined a multi-academy trust, the St. Thomas More Partnership of schools. The trust comprises of two other schools, St. Thomas More, Blaydon and Sacred Heart, Byermoor.
On 1st April 2020, St. Matthew’s became part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust. It is envisaged that the trust will grow as large as 48 schools by July 2022. This transition was part of a diocese wide Academy Policy. We are very excited to be working within the new trust and having had lots of experience as part of a smaller trust, we feel well placed to add lots of value to Bishop Wilkinson CET moving forwards.
Our staff are fully committed to the aims of our school in pushing all children to achieve in both their academics but also to develop their core Christian values.
As a school we are fully welcoming of all families and pupils throughout Prudhoe and our wider community in our catchment area, feel free to give us a call on 01661 83584 to discuss any questions you may have regarding enrollment in our school or our catchment area.
From our most recent OFSTED Inspection, 2018:
“Teaching and learning across key stages are good. Pupils make good progress over time and leave the school at the end of key stage 2 well prepared for their secondary education across the curriculum”
