About Our Nursery at St Matthews Catholic Primary School
A warm welcome to St. Matthew’s Nursery and Daycare
We are delighted that you have come to visit our webpage where we hope to give you an insight into the fantastic range of learning opportunities that take place each day.
At St. Matthew’s we aim to:
- provide high-quality care and education for children below statutory school age;
- work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop;
- add to the life and well-being of the local community; and
- offer children and their parents a service that promotes equality and values diversity.
As an OFSTED registered setting, you can rest assured that your child is in a nurturing and caring environment that will help your child develop the skills that they need to flourish in their school life. We work closely with the Reception class to form a cohesive early years unit which the children can occasionally free flow and learn from the various areas that the combined unit has to offer.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us via telephone: 01661 835484 ext 1.
Outdoor play is an extensive part of our learning and Children are encouraged to extend their creative play by adding open-ended resources such as pieces of guttering and crates. The children have access to our log cabin full of interesting resources during the session to develop their ideas through play. In addition to our traditional outdoor space, we also have a Forest School area where we are able to offer a Forest School experience.
The children in Nursery and Reception spend one session per week in Forest School with the Forest Leader (Mrs Hatherley). This is a very different outdoor experience in a quieter, shadier part of the Nursery/school grounds. Here children dig, plant, play with water and hunt for bugs, exploring the whole area throughout the seasons and in all weathers.
At present, our Nursery has 3 main intakes per year, for most children they will start the term after their 3rd birthday (September, January, April.). Please do not hesitate to ring us should you wish to discuss joining our Nursery, we will be more than happy to work around you as a parent and we would love it if we could arrange a time and date to visit our Nursery, we recommend bringing your child along for a little taster session while we have a chat.
Nursery sessions are 8.45am – 11.45am (AM Session)or 11.45am -2.45pm (PM Session) or 8.45am- 2.45pm (Full day)
We can take 22 children each session and we have two/ three members of staff. Our ratio is 1 adult to 13 children.
In order to offer as much support to these young children as possible, we have staggered starting dates. We only take in three children at a time, as there are only three members of staff available to look after the children.
Parents are welcome to stay with their child if they feel that their child requires their support. For the first 2 days, all new children stay for only one/ two hours. This is very dependant on the child. If the child has not settled then staff will negotiate with the parent and work out a suitable time for both parent and child.
At the end of the session, it is important to collect your child at the correct time. If a different person is picking up your child it is very important to let a member of staff know.
Both morning and afternoon children can have a school lunch, which costs £2.20 per day. School meals are booked and paid for in advance using our online payment system, ‘ParentPay’, more information can be found here: link
