Year 2 at St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School
A very warm welcome to Year 2. We hope your child’s year with us will be a happy, positive and rewarding time of learning and achievement. Outlined is our Long Term curriculum and some important information to make sure life in Year 2 is successful and to build on our strong communication links with parents.
Mrs Gibson – Monday – Wednesday – Class Teacher
Miss Camon-Vilchez – Thursday Friday – Class Teacher
Mrs Read – Teaching Assistant AM
The children are encouraged to change their reading books themselves in Year 2. Please ensure your child’s book bag and reading diary are sent to school every day. New RWI books will also be sent home in these folders every Thursday. They will be collected back by school on Tuesday so that a new book can be issued. We would like to reinforce the importance of hearing your children read as often as possible. Please write a comment in your child’s reading log when you have heard your child read. Reading diaries are monitored weekly by the class teacher to keep on track of reading at home. In addition, your child’s teacher and/or teaching assistant will use the diary to comment on reading progress at school.
Year 2 children will have PE every Monday afternoon and it will take place on the field or the yard. Please send your child into school dressed in an outdoor PE kit.
On Class Dojo you will be able to see updates via the ‘Class Story’ feature on the app. This is also our primary form of contact for any issues, queries, whole-class messages etc. If you wish to speak to myself or any other member of staff, feel free to contact the office to arrange a telephone appointment.
