Year 1 at St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School
A very warm welcome to Year 1. We hope your child’s year with us will be exciting, imaginative and creative. This year will be full of fun, learning and achievement. In year 1, we work hard, persevere and never settle for second best! If you have any suggestions, comments or concerns please send a message via ClassDojo or make an appointment via the School Office.
Our Team:
Miss Donaldson – Class Teacher
Mrs O’Reilly – Teaching Assistant
Homework:
In year 1, your child will be provided with weekly spellings. These will be given on a Monday and tested on a Thursday. Children will be given homework on a Monday which is due in on Friday. This homework will be used to consolidate our learning in class and will be a mixture of Maths and English.
Reading:
As part of our study of our RWI phonics, your child will read daily in class to their teacher, themselves and their peers. Weekly RWI books will be sent home to consolidate the sounds we have been learning. Your child will also bring a library book home to share with their family, which they have chosen from our class library.
Books will be given on a Monday and returned on Friday. Please read with your child and record this in their yellow reading log (This should also be sent to school on a Friday).
In Year 1, we also have a class login for Oxford Owl. This will allow you to access a range of stage-appropriate books for your child to read. Please message Miss Donaldson on Class Dojo for the login details.
PE Kits:
We have PE on a Tuesday afternoon. Please send children into school wearing their outdoor PE kit on this day.
Class Dojo:
You can find out what we have been up to in year 1 on our class story. This will be updated regularly, with posts and photos. Class Dojo can also be used for general messages and information.
