Year 1 at St Matthew’s Catholic Primary School
A very warm welcome to Year 1. We hope your child’s year with us will be exciting, imaginative and creative. This year will be full of fun, learning and achievement. In year 1, we work hard, persevere and never settle for second best!
Mrs Curry – Class Teacher
Mrs O’Reilly – Teaching Assistant
In year 1, your child will be provided with weekly spellings. These will be given on a Monday and tested on a Friday. Children will be given daily reading homework, and will be sent home with 2 books to read, which will be changed on a Friday.
As part of our study of our RWI phonics, your child will read daily in class to their teacher, themselves and their peers. Weekly RWI books will be sent home to consolidate the sounds we have been learning. Your child will also bring a library book home to share with their family, which they have chosen from our class library.
Please read with your child and record this in their yellow reading log (This should also be sent to school on a Friday).
We have PE on a Thursday afternoon. Please send children into school wearing their outdoor PE kit on this day.
You can find out what we have been up to in year 1 on our class story. This will be updated regularly, with posts and photos. Class Dojo can also be used for general messages and information
