PE@SMP
Our PE curriculum has been carefully selected and adapted with our curriculum cornerstones in the forefront of our minds. At St. Matthew’s,we want our children to have:
CONFIDENCE Our PE curriculum is designed to progressively build children’s confidence, particularly in the way that they manipulate their own bodies.
COMMUNICATION Lessons and activities are designed to teach and enhance communication skills.
CREATIVITY Physical expression is at the heart of our PE curriculum. Pupils are afforded opportunities to express their physical creativity and mental agility through carefully planned lessons.
CHALLENGE Competition is central to our PE curriculum. We want to prepare our young people to deal with the emotional side of competition, as well as the physical.
CHANGE We want our children to have a strong understanding of their own bodies and to help them to bring about positive personal change through a rich and disciplinary skill-led curriculum.
To ensure strong progression in physical education, we use the Beyond the Physical PE scheme. We believe that this programme helps to support our children in acquiring a raft of disciplinary skills (not just physical) to apply to different sports and activities.
