History@SMP
At St. Matthew’s , we understand the fundamental importance of our pupils learning both from and about history. It is our goal to ensure that children leave our school with the ability to confidently recall and understand information about different periods of history, significant events, and historical figures from British history and the wider world.
It is important that children leave SMP with the ability to carefully communicate their ideas about history and that when they leave us for secondary school, they are beginning to think critically and creatively about different historical sources. Being a good historian is about having the skills to interpret and challenge information. We want our pupils to be able to ask questions about their history and be prepared to learn from it so that they can enact positive change in the future.
