Welcome to Reception class
Welcome to our Reception class page – this is where the fun begins!
This page will provide some helpful tips and it will help you to keep on top of our class routines and expectations, but remember, if you have any questions, you can always get in touch through the school office.

Life Skills
In Reception Class we would like you to try to become more and more independent.
Can you:
- Get dressed into your uniform?
- Put on your own shoes?
- Put on your own coat and zip it up?
In Reception, children learn to read in a story-rich environment. We share books every day and learn about the world through a range of fiction and non-fiction books. Children learn to read through daily phonics sessions and learn cued articulation to support their understanding of the 44 sounds of the English language. Children are encouraged to develop their writing skills through extensive imaginative play and exploration of the environment. We endeavour to provide many real-life experiences for children in their learning which will include cooking, baking, gardening and visiting local places of interest such as the park and the library.
Alongside our children’s interests we will also be exploring these themes of learning: The Great Outdoors, Frozen Planet, Its a Bug’s Life and Sensational Seaside.
P.E. is on Tuesday each week. Your child can come into school in his/her P.E. kit. Please support us by fostering a culture of independence at home.
