Curriculum

St Matthew’s School follows the National Primary Curriculum 2014 for all subjects and the “Come and See” programme for Religious Education.

We use Read, Write, Inc! programme for the teaching of phonics in EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 and the National Curriculum for spelling and phonics.

Our reading scheme is based on the “Book Bands for Guided Reading” throughout school and this is supplemented by Pearson’s Phonic Bugs in Class 1 and Class 2.

The current National Curriculum can be found at this link:

http://www.gov.uk/government/collections/national-curriculum

Please refer to the Class pages for information about long and medium-term plans.

We invite parents to attend Curriculum Evenings to find out what and how their child is learning. Guided reading takes place on a daily basis.

We use a wide range of texts both fiction & non-fiction from a wide range of reading schemes and ‘real books’. No one reading scheme is followed exclusively and children are exposed to a wide range of texts e.g. traditional tales, stories from other cultures etc. All books are colour coded according to the book band grading system.
